Highlights of the GBPA AGM held on 9th June 2009
Kahurangi Function Centre (Tukurua)
Despite the inclement weather, there was a good turnout for the AGM held on 9th June. The following are the highlights:
- The keynote speaker, Mr Chris Auchinvole, MP of West Coast- Tasman discussed relevant issues which included broadband facilities in Golden Bay, health, education, and cycling on the Heaphy Track. A local phone number to his electorate office is now available for Golden Bay.
- In her Chairperson’s report, Jane Dixon mentioned the move to (eventually in a year’s time) make the Visitor Guide and Yellow Maps available in June/July to fit with the visitor season. She thanked the advertisers who made it possible to produce these publications. The association had a number of projects including sponsoring the Fresh Start breakfast programme of Fresh FM, installing the hanging flower baskets in the main streets of Takaka and Collingwood, maintaining the association website which promotes the region and its events. Future projects were also mentioned.
- The Treasurer’s Report based on the audited annual financial report for GBPA was presented by Cynthia Sampson. Please email Cynthia if you want copies of the annual report posted to you.
- Amendments to the constitution were presented by Alan Blackie to the members present. As there were no objections, these changes were ratified.
- Special celebrations for the 25th year anniversary – Paul Sangster recommends that ‘Honorary Life Membership’ be awarded to active members of the association who have served as committee member for at least 20 years.
- Targeted Tourism Levy - Sara Chapman informed everyone that the TDC will be discussing (on 10th June) some changes to the Tourism targeted rate. The Tourism Targeted Rate of $92,700 (plus GST) is to be charged as a flat rate on tourism related businesses of $137.21 (including GST). This reduces the targeted rate proposed in the draft Plan. The total funding provided by Council to Nelson Tasman Tourism will be equivalent to last year, plus inflation. (Note that this has been subsequently approved by TDC on 30th June. Please refer to the TDC website for details).
- Upgrade on the Takaka i-Site building – On behalf of Nelson Tasman Tourism, Charlotte Bidlake thanked the Golden Bay Promotion Association for refurbishing the building. Liza Eastman states that the extensive repairs greatly improved the interior of the building.
- Goldenbaynz website - Sara Chapman thanked Anita Henderson of GBeeBird for launching the website and for the recent upgrade. Thanks too for accommodating requests and suggestions for the website.
- Election of officers: Chairperson – Jane Dixon; Secretary/Treasurer- Cynthia Sampson; Committee members – Sara Chapman, Alan Blackie, Stuart Borlase, Victoria Davies, Jan Dissel, Gerda Dissel, Elizabeth Dransfield, Paddy Gillooly, Julia Griffiths, Woult Kalis, Alan Kilgour, Dave Myall, Paul Sangster.
We welcome suggestions and feedback about any of the above matters.
