Just two kilometres out of Takaka, on the way to Pohara, are three big oak trees. Turn left here, follow the signs to Labyrinth Rocks Walkway and you will find one of Golden Bay's most amazing places. Nature has produced a maze-like network of canyons through a limestone outcrop - an excellent example of the geological term 'Karst' limestone for which this area is known. It has been developed (and is still in the process of being developed) as an enchanting family attraction. Young or old, you will indeed be amazed!

History of the Labyrinth Rocks Park
Dave Whittaker, a geologist, mining engineer and world traveller originally from the UK, arrived in Golden Bay around 15 years ago... and stayed!
Soon after his arrival he discovered a unique two hectare outcrop of karst limestone rock just outside of the Takaka Township. He subsequently leased this from the council and proceeded to turn it into a magical wonderland for the education and enjoyment of locals and tourists alike.
The Labyrinth Rocks Park became an iconic attraction in Golden Bay and Dave become lovingly known as "The Keeper of the Rocks".
Unfortunately the community lost Dave in 2009 but the park lives on thanks to "Friends of Labyrinth Rocks" and the Tasman District Council.
