Takaka Township

Is the main business, service and shopping centre for Golden Bay and was founded in 1854. A stroll down the main street will reveal the importance of the very active and well recognised arts and crafts community. There is a wide range of accommodation, a good selection of restaurants and caf├ęs, as well as a library and playground.

Heritage Plaques

record the history of many of the town's old buildings and are displayed on the front of buildings along Commercial Street.

has been developed as an enchanting family attraction and they are 2 kilometres from Takaka on the way to Pohara. Nature has produced a maze-like network of canyons through a limestone outcrop.
